




WHAT CHILDREN OF DIVORCE REALLY NEED
An Educational Class for Divorcing Parents - Pierce Co. approved provider of the Court mandated Impact on Children seminar.
THIS CLASS IS DESIGNED FOR PARENTS WHO ARE DIVORCING & FAMILIES WHO ARE UNDERGOING CHANGE (i.e. legal separation, parenting plan modifications, non parental custody actions, etc.). THE GOALS OF THIS FOUR-HOUR CLASS ARE TO HELP PARENTS AND CARETAKERS UNDERSTAND THE NEEDS OF THEIR CHILDREN DURING AND AFTER A DIVORCE, AND TO TEACH THEM THE SKILLS REQUIRED TO MEET THOSE NEEDS.
This class will address the following issues:
- The impact of parental conflict on children and how to avoid it.
- How children grieve the loss of their family during and after a divorce.
- Which children are at greater risk to have difficulties with divorce.
- How to reduce the emotional stress of children of divorce.
- How to communicate about the divorce with your children.
- How to communicate with the children’s other parent re: childcare issues.
- The importance of children’s relationships with both parents.
- Custody battles and how to avoid them.
- The long-term impact of divorce on children.
Presented By
Lesa Swanson, LSW has a Master’s Degree in social work specializing in children, youth, and families. She has an additional 100-hour certification in children’s mental health. She is a private practitioner (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) in Gig Harbor and offers parenting classes twice monthly. She has experience providing supervised visitations and as a court appointed Guardian ad Litem.
Richard MacLeod, LSW has a Master’s Degree in social work specializing in children, youth, and families. He has worked in the mental health field for 15 years including crisis intervention with families and hospital social work. He has experience as a divorce mediator and parenting class presenter at Pierce College.
